Frequently Asked Question

WhatsApp Official User Account

  • WhatsApp takes data protection seriously.
  • WhatsApp acts as a Data Controller and/or Data Processor, depending on the circumstances. When the Enterprise provides its consumer end-users with WhatsApp via the WhatsApp Business API, WhatsApp is a data processor of those consumer end-users to deliver messages from the Enterprise Customers to those end-users. Whatsapp ensures all communications facilitated by WhatsApp Business are compliant with GDPR.
  • Regarding where an enterprise’s customer data (end-user contacts and messages) is stored, this is the sole responsibility of the Enterprise.
  • WhatsApp does not store this data for any longer than necessary, with the sole purpose to route and deliver messages. If a message cannot be delivered immediately, WhatsApp may keep it on our servers for up to 30 days—as WhatsApp continues trying to deliver it. If a message is still not delivered after 30 days, WhatsApp then deletes it.
  • To improve performance and deliver media messages more efficiently, WhatsApp may retain them on our servers for a more extended period.
  • In a nutshell, the Enterprise can use its corporate phone numbers, maintaining control of customer data and conversations: It is at the Enterprise’s discretion to create and sustain chat archives for audit trails and analysis according to industry requirements and standards.

The WhatsApp Business API is an application programming interface that enables the exchange of data between WhatsApp and any other application or platform of the user’s choice.

For example, a business can use the API to transfer contact, messages, data information from WhatsApp to a third party CRM.

For example, if you have an application or a website for booking appointments, and you want users to be able to book appointments on your application through WhatsApp, the API might come in handy.

There are different messaging limits tiers that are enforced by WhatsApp to ensure that businesses high quality of messages and make sure that WhatsApp users always have a good user experience.

Therefore, the limits on messages are imposed based on your quality rating which is calculated based on how users received your messages in the past seven days. If you make sure to comply with WhatsApp commerce policy and maintain a high-quality rating, you move up the messaging tiers and send more messages per day.

Here are the messaging tiers as specified by WhatsApp and Meta:

  • Level 1: 1,000 business-initiated conversations (with 1,000 unique customers) in a rolling 24-hour period.
  • Level 2: 10,000 business-initiated conversations (with 10,000 unique customers) in a rolling 24-hour period.
  • Level 3: 100,000 business-initiated conversations (with 100,000 unique customers) in a rolling 24-hour period.
Level 4: unlimited business-initiated conversations in a rolling 24-hour period.

Of course, you can use the WhatsApp API to enable a bot for easy communication and chat. If you have any questions about the possibilities and the setup, we are happy to help you.

WhatsApp Business Platform Cloud API and WhatsApp Business Platform On-Premises API (known as Business API) are both developed by Meta.

The main difference is that the Business API can be hosted locally or on-premise while the Cloud API is hosted on Meta’s servers in North America only.

Technically, both the Business API and Cloud API serve the same purpose, but not the same business size or segments. Both are REST APIs that facilitate the transfer of data between WhatsApp Business Platform and other platforms.
